Overview

Mums pieder pasaule Bauska, Latvia Volunteer opportunity: Camp leader in International Volunteering Camp

Tasks Summary

This is a chance to become Camp Leaders in two international cultural-heritage summer camps held in Svitene Manor and Rundāle Palace Garden in Latvia. The project brings together participants from different countries and age groups (16–80), creating a rich intercultural learning environment. As a Camp Leader, you will play a key role in planning and leading daily camp activities, supporting group dynamics, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and motivating atmosphere. You will guide participants through light archaeological and heritage-related tasks (under professional supervision), cultural and educational activities, reflections, ect. The role combines leadership, facilitation, practical work, and creativity. Volunteers work closely with an experienced youth worker, project coordinator, local volunteers, and heritage specialists. Before the camps, you will take part in preparatory training covering group dynamics, safety, inclusion, communication, and activity planning. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Volunteers will live in a shared two-room studio apartment with another volunteer, each having their own private space. The apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen, shower, washing machine, and free Wi-Fi. The project provides a monthly food allowance of 150 EUR and daily pocket money of 5 EUR. Travel costs for arrival and departure are covered, as well as local transport to and from project activities. Health insurance is included. As public transport in rural areas is limited, a bicycle can be provided if needed. Training during the activity Before the camps begin, volunteers will take part in a preparatory training programme designed to support them in their role. The training covers youth group dynamics, safe working methods in heritage spaces, activity planning and facilitation, inclusion and diversity principles, communication skills, and basic social media tools. This preparation ensures volunteers feel confident, supported, and ready to lead international groups, with ongoing guidance from an experienced youth worker during the project. Participant profile We are looking for responsible, open-minded, and motivated participants aged 18–30 who are interested in working with people, cultural heritage, and international groups. The Camp Leader should be ready to take on a leadership role, guide a diverse and intergenerational group (participants aged 16–80), and foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive camp atmosphere. Good communication skills in English, initiative, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities are essential. Previous experience in youth work, volunteering, facilitation, or group leadership is an advantage, but most important is the willingness to learn, take responsibility, and actively engage in the project.
