Overview

This online volunteering assignment focuses on private sector engagement, labor market and skills gap analysis, and the development of a preliminary partner roster to inform the NextGen Programme design and implementation.

Tasks Summary
  • Conduct desk research on private sector engagement models relevant to youth employment and skills development.
  • Identify key private sector trends, priority industries, and emerging sectors with high youth employment potential.
  • Support the development of engagement approaches for private sector participation in the NextGen Programme.
  • Review existing reports, labor market studies, and skills assessments related to youth employment in Kenya.
  • Identify key skills gaps between youth competencies and private sector labor market demands.
  • Summarize priority technical, digital, soft, and green skills relevant to current and future job markets.
  • Identify and map potential private sector partners, foundations, and corporate entities aligned with youth employment, skills development, and inclusive growth.
  • Develop a preliminary roster/database of organizations UNDP Kenya can engage as the NextGen Programme is rolled out.
  • Categorize partners by sector, interest area, and potential contribution (e.g., funding, mentorship, training, job placements).
Experience Requirements
  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Interest in youth employment, skills development, and private sector partnerships.
  • Familiarity with labor market issues in Kenya is an asset.
  • Ability to synthesize information into clear, concise written outputs.
