Overview

The Environmental and Social Safeguard Officer (ESSO) will ensure UNOPS projects in Yemen adhere to environmental and social standards, integrating them into critical infrastructure projects for sustainable recovery.

Tasks Summary

• Prepare E&S Screening Forms and advise on site-specific E&S instruments (ESMPs, ARAPs/RAPs, etc.).
• Conduct site visits to monitor ESMP and OHS implementation by IPs and contractors.
• Ensure contractors implement robust OHS procedures and labor standards.
• Oversee mitigation measures for community health and safety risks.
• Prepare E&S monitoring reports.
• Support and supervise the functioning of the Project's GRM.
• Assist in implementing the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP).
• Develop and deliver training on E&S safeguards, OHS, GBV/SEA/SH prevention, and GRM.
• Stay updated on HSSE trends and best practices.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental management, social development, or E&S safeguards, preferably in infrastructure or humanitarian/emergency contexts.
• Experience in HSSE risk assessments, inspections, incident investigation and/or training facilitation.

Qualification Requirements

• An advanced university degree, preferably in health and safety management, natural science, engineering, Environmental Science/ Environmental Economics, Natural Resources Management or relevant scientific disciplines.
• Bachelor degree in combination with an additional 2 years' of relevant work experience (7 in total) can be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
