Overview
The Legal Specialist will support the implementation of the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme in Nepal by assessing and strengthening policy and legal frameworks for sustainable wildlife management and related agri-food systems.
Tasks Summary
- Support the preparation of a stakeholder map and lead multi-stakeholder meetings/workshops.
- Assist in shaping agendas, discussing legal components, and documenting key discussion points.
- Conduct desk reviews of existing studies and analyses on national legal and institutional frameworks.
- Coordinate and exchange information with key stakeholders through bilateral meetings.
- Identify and collect existing policies and corresponding legislation/regulations.
- Fill up data entry backend using Legal Diagnostic Tools and develop summaries on the enabling legal and regulatory framework.
- Support the organization and facilitation of validation workshops with relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate discussions with government partners on policy reform processes.
- Conduct desk reviews of studies and analyses on customary norms and practices.
- Support the documentation of evidence of successful integration of customary practices and draft an analytical note.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in wildlife management, conservation biology or natural resource management. (Master’s Degree with 5 years’ experience can also be considered).
- Experience working with government ministry and departments (Ministry of Forest and Environment, and Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management) is highly desirable.
Qualification Requirements
• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management, Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences or Ecology.
