Overview

The WASH Officer will support the WASH Programme Management in addressing humanitarian and operational challenges in Venezuela, focusing on children, adolescents, and women.

Tasks Summary
  • Support programme development and planning of WASH in Health, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and WASH in nutrition components.
  • Research and analyze regional/national trends in WASH in health, IPC, WASH in nutrition, and social and economic development.
  • Prepare technical reports and inputs for programme preparation and documentation.
  • Assist in the development/establishment of WASH-related outcome and output results.
  • Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes.
  • Prepare required documentations/materials to facilitate review and approval processes.
  • Support Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results of WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition components.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to collect/analyze/share information on implementation issues.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual sectoral reviews.
  • Monitor and report on the use of sectoral programme resources.
  • Prepare inputs for programme and donor reporting.
  • Support all modalities of implementation and programming approaches of WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition components.
  • Support technical assistance and operational support for WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition components.
  • Undertake field visits and surveys, collect and share reports with partners/stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners and other country office partners/donors.
  • Support national and subnational authorities in the development of WASH priorities.
  • Support WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition component of WASH Emergency Preparedness and Response component.
  • Draft inputs for the preparation of WASH emergency preparedness.
  • Study and fully understand UNICEF’s procedures for responding in an emergency.
  • Take up support roles in an emergency response and early recovery.
  • Support networking and partnership building for WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition components.
  • Build and sustain close working partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders.
  • Draft communication and information materials for WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition programme advocacy.
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings/events on WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition programming.
  • Research information on potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials and briefs.
  • Assist in the identification, development, implementation, monitoring and documentation of WASH in Health, IPC and WASH in nutrition action research and innovation.
  • Assist in the preparation of learning/knowledge products.
  • Assist in creating and delivering learning opportunities for UNICEF WASH, health and nutrition staff.
  • Participate as a resource person in capacity building initiatives.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in WASH in Health IPC-related programmes for developing countries is required.
  • Experience of humanitarian WASH response is considered as an asset.
Qualification Requirements
  • An bachelor degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, medical doctor or another relevant technical field.
  • An advanced university degree and additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluent in Spanish and intermediate level of English is required.

Languages Preferred: Proficient in English is desirable. Another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) or local language is an asset.
