Overview

Provides support in developing, managing, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring advocacy and communication strategies. Acts as the focal point for field offices and departments to raise awareness about issues concerning Palestine Refugees.

Tasks Summary
  • Provides support to the Director of Communications and Senior Communications Manager in developing, managing, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring advocacy and communication strategies.
  • Prepares and/or curates related communication materials for review and clearance.
  • Acts as the Communications Division focal point for UNRWA field offices and departments.
  • Organizes interviews for UNRWA's approved spokespeople and/or responds in writing to media inquiries.
  • Implements a successful process of communicating and maintaining regular contact and close collaboration with the media.
  • Develops and updates essential communication tools, resources, and products.
  • Liaises with counterparts in other UN agencies.
  • Drafts statements, news releases and other materials related to UNRWA milestones, events and crises and emergencies.
  • Conducts analysis and monitoring of media mentions of UNRWA, identifies misinformation or disinformation about the Agency.
  • Manages the production of, and/or prepares, and shares regular and ad hoc monitoring and evaluation results and reports.
  • Provides support to other members of the Communications Division, including for multimedia content production.
Experience Requirements
  • At least five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communications, print, broadcast, and/or new media is required.
  • Professional experience working in communications roles in other international organizations or INGOs and field experience is required.
  • Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a candidate for an international post must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number is required.
  • Experience providing support to senior officials is desirable.
  • Experience managing and/or participating in inter-agency communications networks is desirable.
  • Experience in fact-checking and other mis/disinformation-related areas is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline is required.
  • Equivalency: A first level university degree in combination with additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Other Details

Languages Required: English is required.

Languages Preferred: Command of other official UN languages is desirable.

Contract Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension.
