Overview

This internship provides publication design support for a Practical Guide on Capacity-Building and Development. The role involves developing creative concepts, layouts, and visual elements for print and digital formats.

Tasks Summary

• Develop creative concept and layout designs for the Practical Guide, including tables, figures and charts;
• Develop infographics to translate theoretical concepts and principles into more visually appealing elements;
• Incorporate provided text and photographs;
• Ensure designs are consistent with SCBD’s branding and style guide;
• Prepare final files in print-ready and digital formats (e.g., PDF, ePub);
• Assist with other tasks related to the Practical Guide as may be required.

Experience Requirements

• Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
• Demonstrated ability to develop layout designs for multi-page publications, including reports, guides, or manuals is required.
• Strong understanding of typography, visual hierarchy, layout systems, and grid-based design is required.
• Proficiency in industry-standard design software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required.
• Experience preparing files for print and digital distribution, including PDFs and e-publications (ePub or similar formats) is required.
• Attention to detail in ensuring visual consistency and quality control is required.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple design tasks and revisions within agreed timelines is required.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team is an asset.

Qualification Requirements

• Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor 's level or equivalent). (c) Have graduated with a university degree.
• Be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of French and Spanish is desirable.

Contract Duration: Three months

Work Modality:

Remuneration: The Internship is for a maximum duration of 3 months and UNPAID. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
