Overview
Support the effective implementation of eco-tourism related activities, providing technical expertise and guidance to project teams. The role aims to diversify Botswana’s economy and generate employment by strengthening the competitiveness of the ecotourism value chain.
Tasks Summary
- Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned projects, monitoring and analyzing specific aspects of project development and implementation.
- Carry out basic research on selected aspects of Botswana tourism programmes, operations and other activities.
- Liaise with Business Support Organizations (BSOs) and sector associations.
- Provide substantive support for strategy and policy coordination and evaluation functions.
- Assist in performing consulting assignments, planning and facilitating workshops.
- Participate in survey initiatives, assist with design of data collection tools, and analyze responses.
- Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, such as draft background papers and reports.
- Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings.
- Undertake outreach activities and participate in the development of training workshops.
- Participate in field missions, providing substantive and administrative support.
- Coordinate activities related to budget funding and preparation of related documents.
- Assist in the identification, segmentation and engagement of eco-tourism value chain actors.
- Assist in implementing capacity development and clustering activities for eco-tourism MSMEs.
- Support the development of backward, forward and cross-sectoral linkages within the eco-tourism value chain.
- Ensure women, youth and marginalized groups are meaningfully included and mainstreamed throughout the programme.
- Perform other duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of two years of experience in project/programme management, administration is required.
- Experience in: (eco‑)tourism, tourism value chain development, sustainable tourism development, community‑based tourism, or related area.
- Experience in capacity building initiatives, preferably in the trade sector.
- Experience working with Batswana SMEs is required.
- Experience in the implementation of international cooperation projects desirable.
- Experience in working with Market System Development (MSD) approach is desirable.
- Experience working with protected areas and community based tourism initiatives in Botswana, supporting local communities or conservation linked enterprises is desirable.
- Experience in designing and/or delivering training programs for SMEs is desirable.
- Experience in delivering Training of Trainers is an asset/desirable.
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in tourism, business administration, management, economics or related field. A first-level university degree in the areas mentioned in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
