Overview

The National Circular Economy Expert will be responsible for information gathering and coordinative activities for the Mexico component of the CB-ACES project, aiming to reduce negative impacts on climate and biodiversity by transforming selected sectors towards a circular economy.

Tasks Summary
  • Review project documents and Mexico's CE implementation landscape.
  • Provide technical advice on project implementation strategy and identify stakeholders.
  • Develop actionable CE intervention strategy, including detailed recommendations for priority sectors.
  • Identify and analyze CE business models applicable to Mexico.
  • Develop a capacity building plan and concepts for concrete pilots.
  • Develop stakeholder engagement and integration approach.
  • Develop policy implementation recommendations.
  • Conceptualize financial instruments and develop a project pipeline.
  • Represent UNIDO at meetings and prepare meeting notes.
  • Draft the final report and monthly progress reports.
  • Participate in consortium coordination calls and budget planning.
Experience Requirements
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in the implementation of technical cooperation/ development projects at national level.
  • Experience in circular economy implementation (in industry).
  • Experience in working in at least three of the following sectors: automotive, textiles, agri-food, electronics, plastics, construction, organic waste, metals, WEEE, bio-based materials.
  • Experience in industrial processes and value chains.
  • Experience in business model innovation.
  • Policy advisory experience.
  • Capacity building experience.
  • Experience related to gender issues and social inclusion is desirable.
  • Experience in climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection is desirable.
  • Experience in financial mechanisms and investment is desirable.
  • Experience in evaluating the needs, conditions and problems of the country or similar country in the regions is desirable.
  • Experience in working with government and development agencies including the United Nations agencies in the country or similar country in the region, is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in economics, engineering, environment, business administration, or other relevant discipline, is required.
  • Alternatively, a first level university degree or an advanced technical college diploma may be acceptable provided it is combined with additional 5 years of professional hand-on experience that is directly relevant to the expertise required by the specific assignment.

Languages Required: • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. • Fluency and/or working knowledge of Spanish is required.
