Intern - Legal Affairs

Overview

Applications are sought for internship positions in the Appeals Section and Disciplinary Section of the Administrative Law Division. This internship offers practical educational experience in the legal field within an international organization.

Tasks Summary

• Assisting in preparing advice on appeals and disciplinary matters.
• Conducting legal research and analyzing issues arising from the application of the Staff Regulations and Rules.
• Assisting counsel to prepare written and oral submissions in proceedings before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT).
• Assisting in drafting various legal documents and communications.
• Attending and taking notes at conferences and meetings.
• Supporting information and knowledge management practices.

Experience Requirements

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualification Requirements

• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent).
• Knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint is required.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Contract Duration: 3-6 months

Work Modality: in person and full-time. Depending on the situation of the successful candidates, the internship may also be conducted remotely and/or in part-time.

Remuneration: The internship is UNPAID. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
