Overview

The role involves copyediting and finalizing various publications and web stories related to waste trafficking, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and conformity with UNODC standards.

Tasks Summary
  • Copyedit 1 bulletin on waste trafficking (trendspotting alert).
  • Finalize content/copyediting version of 4 web stories on waste trafficking activities.
  • Copyedit version of national checklist on waste importation rules and procedure for 3 focus countries.
  • Finalize 4 country-specific training materials.
  • Content/copy-edit approximately 13 documents (approximately 156 pages) on waste trafficking.
  • Draft approximately 4 web-stories (approximately 4 pages) on waste trafficking activities.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and conformity with UNODC standards, policy, writing style guide and practice.
  • Evaluate text for consistency and appropriate use of UN vocabulary, identifying sensitivities.
  • Coordinate with project team members to develop and articulate content ideas.
  • When required, coordinate with UNODC graphic designer for document import, table/graphic creation, and formatting.
  • Ensure materials meet the highest standard of English writing and UNODC editorial standards.
  • Ensure correctness of context, content, and terminologies.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve product quality.
  • Liaise with project team members to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Draft communication products summarizing key messages and findings.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and publishing is required.
  • Experience working with UN editorial guidelines is desirable.
  • Experience with writing for the UN or other international organizations, preferably on topics of UNODC’s mandate, is desirable.
  • Experience or familiarity with legal and technical terms related to criminal justice and crimes that affect the environment is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Professional training in journalism or editing is required.
  • Excellent drafting skills are required.
Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in English, with excellent drafting and communication skills, is required.

Languages Preferred: • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
