Overview

The Security Operations Center (SOC) Assistant supports the daily operations of the Security Communications System (SCS) and maintains security administrative data for the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS).

Tasks Summary
  • Support the UNSMS on the daily operations of the SCS.
  • Receive, transmit or relay security and safety messages.
  • Escalate security incidents through defined channels.
  • Notify senior security professionals of security incidents.
  • Contact external security services based on local SOPs.
  • Maintain records and logs of communications and actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date contact and residence details of UNSMS personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individuals.
  • Support and facilitate headcounts of UNSMS personnel.
  • Maintain contact details of emergency services and support structures.
  • Monitor the movement of missions using the SCS.
  • Verify the operational status of the SCS.
  • Ensure up-to-date inventory records of cost-shared equipment.
  • Prepare and submit reports.
  • Monitor security guards’ performance.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports of the Security Guard Force.
  • Maintain delivery and backup of security related CCTV data.
  • Support liaison with service providers for security equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain fire alarm system and act as a fire warden.
  • Design and produce ID cards.
  • Monitor Access Control system and provide proximity cards.
  • Conduct programming of proximity cards and maintain database.
  • Support the FSA in ensuring UN safety and security-related issues.
  • Backstop FSA when absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years (with secondary education) or 2 years (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience related to operational communications, radio operator and direct interaction with broad range of client in the field of safety and security.
  • Experience in the use of computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc), database packages, and web-based management systems such as ERP.
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating communication equipment available in the communication center, such as UHF/VHF radios, smartphones, satellite phones, digital senders, bulk SMS, and computers, is required.
  • Experience in working in operations center, radio room, command centers, and crisis management is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Secondary Education is required.
  • University degree (Bachelor’s degree) in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, Management or a relevant field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English and Mongolian is required.
