Overview
The Field Security Associate will report to the UNDSS Chief Security Adviser for Lebanon and assist in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the safety and security of UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility.
Tasks Summary
- Assist in collecting, updating, and communicating information regarding the security situation.
- Liaise and coordinate with host government security organizations and personnel.
- Help assess the local security situation and ensure adequate gathering and verification of security information.
- Communicate information on security issues to heads of UN agencies and provide host country security advice.
- Maintain regular contact with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
- Help in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan.
- Support actions during the implementation of the Security Plan.
- Provide technical assistance and participate in Area/Security Management Team meetings.
- Monitor the implementation of security risk management measures.
- Support the Chief Security Adviser in managing security-related budgets or cost-sharing arrangements.
- Assist in reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets.
- Assist in the preparation of security reports, such as the Security Incident Report and other Security Assessments.
- Support the preparation of other security documentation such as weekly/monthly situation reports.
- Provide support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness.
- Provide security orientation to newly assigned staff members.
- Conduct security briefings, as required.
- Provide security orientations and briefings to newly arrived staff members and visiting missions.
- Conduct security briefings for staff and dependents.
- Provide support in conducting security evaluations and provides advice on Residential Security Measures.
- Establish and maintain warden system and keeps update of information related to UN offices and residences.
- Maintain liaison with commercial approved security companies.
- Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
- Maintain a database on contact details of host country security authorities.
- Arrange appointments, receive visitors, place and screen telephone calls with discretion, and take minutes and/or notes at meetings.
- Drive UN vehicles as necessary.
- Perform other security-related tasks and other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel Access and Powerpoint is required.
- Experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
- Experience in standalone security position is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
