Overview

The internship supports the UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) climate team and regional teams in scaling up and developing climate mitigation initiatives for financial institutions in Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC). The role aims to accelerate the climate transition of the financial system across regions.

Tasks Summary
  • Support in the organization, planning, and delivery of engagement with banks, insurers, and asset owners.
  • Conduct regional analysis of climate transition capabilities to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Scope and prioritise climate transition capacity-building needs.
  • Support the delivery of the APAC climate plan.
  • Design and prepare regional and country-specific training materials.
  • Support the design and delivery of capacity-building work for FIs.
  • Support the organization and delivery of events for financial sector decarbonization.
  • Support maturity analysis of emissions data capabilities.
  • Identify potential partners for gathering country-specific data.
  • Prepare reporting materials and administrative tasks.
  • Support with the translation of global UNEP FI materials to the local context.
Experience Requirements

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualification Requirements
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Second / Third year undergraduate or recent graduate in finance, environmental science, business administration, international relations, financial services, or environmental affairs.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: Remote

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
