Overview
The Finance Technical Officer will ensure accurate and compliant day-to-day accounting, support grant financial and fiscal reporting for the office in Geneva in full respect of Swiss law, Swiss GAAP, donor regulations and internal financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily bookkeeping and posting of financial transactions in the accounting software (Unit4).
- Process accounts payable: control supplier invoices, execute payments (domestic and international), ensure correct cost allocation.
- Handle all VAT-related obligations, including preparation and submission of VAT returns, reconciliation of VAT accounts, and ensuring compliance with Swiss VAT regulations.
- Prepare monthly bank and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Support monthly and annual closing processes and contribute to the preparation of statutory accounts under Swiss GAAP.
- Ensure proper electronic and physical filing of all supporting documents.
- Assist in the preparation of internal and external audits (Swiss certified auditor, donor audits).
- Support the financial cycle of institutional grants (budget monitoring, expenditure eligibility checks, preparation and submission of financial reports and payments requests to donors).
- Provide financial data and analysis to grant managers and alert on variances or risks.
- Any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.
Required Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting/finance.
- Solid knowledge of Swiss accounting standards (Swiss GAAP RPC / FER) and VAT rules.
- Excellent command of Excel and good knowledge of accounting software.
- Knowledge of social-insurance system and/or payroll a strong advantage.
- Experience in grant financial management within the humanitarian sector a plus.
Qualifications
Bachelor or Master degree in finance, accounting or business administration or equivalent.
