Programme Policy Officer (IFI Safeguards Compliance) CST - II, Port Sudan

Overview

The Programme Policy Officer (IFI Safeguards Compliance) will provide strategic and operational leadership for social and environmental safeguard components of International Financial Institution (IFI) funded projects in Sudan. The role ensures compliance with IFI legal agreements and WFP policies.

Tasks Summary

• Provide strategic leadership and coordination for social and environmental safeguards across IFI-funded projects.
• Develop, update, and operationalise project-specific safeguards instruments.
• Conduct and oversee safeguards research, risk assessments, and impact assessments.
• Support oversight of safeguards implementation in sub offices and partner compliance.
• Ensure safeguards flowdown to partners and through procurement processes.
• Conduct field monitoring to assure safeguards compliance.
• Lead safeguards reporting and compliance assurance.
• Strengthen capacity through targeted training and technical support.
• Supervise and provide technical oversight to team members.

Experience Requirements

At least five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental and social risk identification and management. Experience working with the World Bank and/or African Development Bank projects is an asset.

Qualification Requirements

An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in one of the following areas: Social Studies, Political Science, International Studies, Human Rights, or related field.
