Overview

The Program Officer-MECC-(Affiliated Contractor) will manage all aspects of MECC programming in Ethiopia, including project implementation, capacity building, assessments, training, research, and related activities.

Tasks Summary
  • Lead and coordinate the Migration, Environment, and Climate Change (MECC) and Disaster Risk Management (DRM) program.
  • Establish and expand the MECC program portfolio.
  • Develop context-specific concept notes and proposals to mobilize funding.
  • Manage, monitor, and report on multiple climate-smart and DRM projects.
  • Support the integration of climate mobility considerations into national policies.
  • Strengthen partnerships with government, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at high-level forums and meetings.
  • Strengthen donor engagement and facilitate strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s mission strategy.
  • Map and assess mission-level climate interventions and develop action plans.
  • Build staff capacity on climate action and climate mobility by organizing and delivering trainings.
Experience Requirements
  • Proved leadership in managing and coordinating programs, it would be advantageous with a particular emphasis on the development of climate adaptation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and expand program portfolios through the creation of context-specific concept notes and proposals, successfully mobilizing funding and resources for climate resilience and DRM initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in managing, monitoring, and reporting on multiple projects, with a strong focus on knowledge sharing, cross-learning, and ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Track record of fostering collaboration with government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to advance climate resilience and disaster risk management efforts.
  • Strong capacity in building staff expertise, facilitating internal trainings and knowledge sharing, and representing the organization at high-level forums to promote innovative approaches and best practices in climate adaptation and mobility.
Qualification Requirements
  • MA Degree in Environmental Science; Natural Resource Management; Agricultural Economics and Development; Forestry; Plant Science; Rural Development; Disaster Risk management; Gender and Development; International Relations, Law and other related Social Science fields, or
  • University Degree in the above field with minimum two years of relevant professional work experience.
Other Details

Languages Required: Proficient in English (oral and written) Working knowledge of Amharic (Oral and Written)

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
