Overview
The Associate Environmental Affairs Officer will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes and projects addressing subregional environmental challenges, including through NEASPEC and related issues on inclusive business and entrepreneurship for sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities
- Works with national counterparts for programme/project development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation.
- Carries out analytical research on national policies and programmes.
- Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation.
- Assists in performing consulting assignments and facilitating workshops.
- Participates in survey initiatives, assists with data collection tool design, and analyzes responses.
- Contributes to the preparation of written outputs such as background papers and reports.
- Provides administrative and substantive support to meetings and conferences.
- Undertakes outreach activities and participates in training workshops.
- Participates in field missions.
- Coordinates activities related to budget funding and preparation of related documents.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Experience
- A minimum of two years of experience in environmental policies, environmental management or related area is required.
- Experience in project management pertaining to the areas of North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation is required.
- Experience in the area of environmental affairs at national and/or international level is required.
- Experience in the United Nations Common System or in international organizations similar to those in the UN Common System is desirable.
- Experience in one of the areas of the UN 2.0 (Strategic Foresight, Behavioral Sciences, Digitalization, Innovation or Data) is desirable.
- Experience in working with national or local government offices in East and North-East Asia is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in environment related studies including natural science, natural resource management, environmental policy, environmental economics or related field is required. A relevant first-level university degree in the above fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
