Overview
The Data Specialist will be responsible for delivering quality-assured, structured, and interoperable datasets, supported by documented data pipelines, for the Peacebuilding Data Platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile, organise and structure datasets from multiple sources into a consolidated master table.
- Conduct data quality assurance and validation of existing tables, identifying and resolving inconsistencies.
- Document the end-to-end data pipeline for all data sources.
- Investigate and make recommendations on feasibility of integrating additional sources of data.
- Other data-related tasks as determined by the Team Leader.
Required Experience
- Experience working with relational datasets and database structures is required.
- Experience preparing datasets for use in Power BI is desirable.
- Skills in SQL and/or programming languages are desirable.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working in the UN system, particularly on Peace and Security-related topics is desirable.
- Knowledge of data governance or data management practices in institutional settings is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, public administration, management or a related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Knowledge of foundational concepts in data manipulation and analysis and knowledge of the data life cycle are required.
- Proficiency in Excel and Power Query is required.
