Overview
The consultant will be responsible for the organizing, conducting and following up on the 60th session of the International Law Seminar (ILS). The role ensures the successful and smooth holding of the Seminar, from participant selection to the preparation of final reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on topics on the agenda of the International Law Commission (ILC).
- Review applications of ILS candidates and participate in the selection process.
- Coordinate with ILC members and Secretariat to identify agenda items for lectures.
- Develop a work programme and ensure sound methodologies for Working Groups.
- Communicate with selected ILS participants to determine interests and preparedness.
- Arrange speakers for lectures and organize visits to relevant organizations.
- Oversee all Seminar activities, including facilitating discussions and serving as a lecturer.
- Support the timely production of Working Group reports.
- Supervise and coordinate the production of Seminar proceedings.
- Conduct a post-Seminar evaluation.
- Prepare letters of appreciation to contributors.
- Provide advice on organizational and academic aspects of the Seminar.
- Perform any other assigned duties.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five years of UN experience in the field of International Law, Political Science, International Relations or related field is required.
- Experience in the work of the International Law Commission is required.
- Experience in the coordination of law seminars is required.
- Experience in using various legal research tools, including electronic databases is required.
Qualifications
A first-level university degree is required for this position in International Law, International Relations or related area.
