Overview

The Communications Assistant will support the Communications Officer in collecting and disseminating information related to refugee issues and UNHCR's work. The role involves managing communication materials, responding to inquiries, and assisting with communication events.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collect press-cuttings related to refugee issues and UNHCR's work.
  • Compile and maintain mailing lists for press releases and ensure timely despatch of information.
  • Classify and maintain stock of PI materials and promote merchandise sales.
  • Maintain an up-to-date catalogue of PI material and submit monthly reports on sales and stocks.
  • Provide clerical assistance for PI events such as poster campaigns and exhibitions.
  • Respond to routine telephone and written inquiries from media, public, NGOs, and government officials.
  • Maintain PI files and have access to UNHCR's communication systems.
  • Support risk management and opportunity identification within the area of responsibility.
  • Create, manage, and promote social media content for various platforms.
  • Moderate community interaction on social media and report notable threats.
  • Liaise with social media teams at UNHCR HQ, RBE, and PSP.
  • Create social media content and oversee graphic designers' work.
  • Design, create, and manage social ad campaigns.
  • Compile timely results reports for social media activities.
  • Map out social media strategy measurable by tests and metrics.
  • Provide input, direction, and execution for website design and development for increased visibility and usability.
  • Analyze and execute online campaigns to drive web traffic.
  • Analyze and enhance website published content for improved search engine ranking.
  • Monitor and analyze best performing websites and online channels.
  • Engage in joint digital campaigns and activities.
  • Support in identifying and managing digital influencers.
  • Translate relevant UNHCR information and materials from English into Italian.
  • Support the organization of activities and/or events.
  • Update and maintain communication and external relations databases and stock of materials.
  • Prepare daily press reviews and assist in adapting briefing notes and press releases.
  • Collect data and support the compilation of internal and external reports.
  • Support in the implementation of the PI procurement plan.
Required Experience
  • 1 year relevant experience with High School Diploma; or Bachelor or equivalent or higher.
  • Communication and computer skills.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Excellent translation and interpreting skills.
  • Preferable – At least 2 years of job experience in digital and social media and website management.
  • Preferable – Experience in SEM, SEO, and web analytics tools (Raven, Google Analytics).
  • Preferable – Experience in Content Management Systems for website online publishing (WordPress).
  • Experience in creating editorial plans for including, but not limited to, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Google Communities, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube and Pinterest platforms.
  • Previous UN Experience in similar functions is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Business Administration; Journalism; Social Science; or other relevant field.
  • Certificates and Licenses marked with an asterisk* are essential.
