Overview

The Public Information Officer will lead the strategy, planning, development, and implementation of communications campaigns, and provide advice on public affairs issues.


Key Responsibilities
  • Takes the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of large, complex communications campaigns.
  • Identifies, evaluates and integrates emerging communications tools, technologies and formats.
  • Provides advice and expertise to managers, senior officers and other public information staff.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies.
  • Prepares or oversees preparation of a diverse range of information communications products.
  • Evaluates results and impact of communications activities.
  • Represents the institution in meetings and conferences.
  • Assists is the day-to-day operation of the unit.
  • Coordinates and directs a team of public information staff.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience leveraging AI and other digital technologies for communication work is desirable. At least one (1) year of managerial experience is desirable. Experience within the United Nations Common System or other international organization is desirable. Experience in communications, journalism, or media-related work in the field is desirable. Experience working with human rights issues is desirable. Experience in writing journalistic pieces/articles on international affairs in English is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, political science, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
