Overview

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is offering an internship opportunity within the Office of Public Counsel for the Defence. The purpose is to provide support in legal research and case follow-up.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on a wide range of complex legal issues;
  • Draft memoranda, summaries, legal notes, and meeting minutes;
  • Follow proceedings to assist with team assistance;
  • Participate in internal meetings of the Court and presentations to external groups.
Required Experience

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers. Practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. Should there be a practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court, it may be considered an asset. Applicants must have less than three years of relevant full-time professional experience to be considered for an internship.

Qualifications

All Candidates must have an advanced degree in law (L.L.M. or J.D.) or be in the final stages of their legal studies at a recognised university having undertaken coursework in international /national criminal law, comparative law and criminology, public international law, international humanitarian law and/or human rights. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.

Languages Required
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required.
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of the other working language (French or English) is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
Contract Duration
Between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Internship placements shall not be extended beyond six months.

Remuneration
Internship placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship. Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship.
