Overview

The Assistant Human Rights Officer (B&HR) researches and collects information on human rights matters, supports the office's business and human rights agenda, and drafts reports. The role also involves participating in documentation and monitoring of human rights violations and assisting with training programmes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights matters.
  • Supports the Office in Colombia in its business & human rights agenda.
  • Drafts a variety of reports and correspondence relating to human rights matters.
  • Participates in the documentation and monitoring human rights violations.
  • Maintains awareness of current human rights issues.
  • Assists with human rights training programmes.
  • Supports OHCHR Colombia in liaising and advocating with relevant national and local authorities.
  • Provides technical assistance to the government, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) and state institutions.
  • Supports NGOs, Civil Society organizations, UN agencies and other partners.
  • Prepares preliminary versions of speeches, presentations and communications.
Required Experience

For candidates who hold a first level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), a minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience at national and/or international levels in the human rights field is required. No experience is needed for candidates who hold an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent). Experience in dealing with key stakeholders, including business enterprises, governments, diplomatic community, NGO's and/or victims is desirable. Experience in communication, including preparation of written reports and training presentations to external audiences is desirable. Experience in relation to business and human rights is desirable. Experience working on issues at the intersection of human rights and digital technologies, or with digital technology companies is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
