Overview

The Associate Human Rights Officer will research, collect, and analyze information pertaining to business and human rights, including their gender dimensions, and draft reports and correspondence on human rights matters.

Tasks Summary
  • Researches and collects information pertaining to business and human rights, including their gender dimensions.
  • Drafts a variety of thematic reports and correspondence relating to human rights matters.
  • Participates in hearings and consultations; prepare summaries of results.
  • Maintains awareness of current human rights issues and supports implementation of business and human rights initiatives.
  • Participates in human rights training programmes for national law enforcement officials, civil society, and NGOs.
  • Reviews human rights issues and participates in discussions on their integration into political, humanitarian, and economic efforts.
  • Assists in promoting efforts for community mobilisation and exercise of rights.
  • Participates in discussions with authorities and other actors to prevent human rights violations.
  • Liaises with government, NGOs, Civil Society organizations, UN agencies and other partners to create baseline data.
  • Designs and maintains database to track implementation progress of initiatives and projects on business and human rights.
  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data and provides draft insights using data visualization methods.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required. Experience in business and human rights, including experience in working with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

Advanced university degree (Masters’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional (G to P).
