Overview

Contributes to the design, planning, and implementation of capacity building activities related to women’s human rights and gender for national stakeholders and civil society organizations. Maintains awareness of human rights situations and participates in discussions to prevent or remedy violations.

Tasks Summary
  • Contributes to the design, planning, and implementation of capacity building activities related to women’s human rights and gender for national stakeholders and representatives of civil society organizations.
  • Maintains awareness of updates on the human rights situations, including major political and legal developments affecting women’s rights.
  • Reviews human rights issues, including their gender dimensions, and participates in discussions with other Human Rights Officers on the integration of these issues into political, humanitarian and economic efforts and programmes.
  • Participates with other HROs in discussions with relevant authorities and other influential actors with the aim of stopping or preventing human rights violations or seeks other remedial action.
  • Liaises with government, NGOs, Civil Society organizations, UN agencies and other partners to create baseline data on the human rights situation, with special attention to vulnerable groups.
  • Contributes to the integration of gender perspectives/considerations and specific women/girls’ rights issues in all activities and to the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required. Experience in the area of women’s rights and gender, including sexual violence, is required. Experience in human rights monitoring and investigation in conflict settings is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, human rights, political science, international relations, or other disciplines related to human rights. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
