Overview
The Local Security Assistant reports and manages all security-related matters and acts as the primary security focal point for management and staff in Kabul.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing safety and security procedures.
- Address emergency management preparation, oversight, and response.
- Strengthen security arrangements of FAO facilities and contingency planning.
- Coordinate safety and security activities with UNDSS and local authorities.
- Assist in developing and reviewing internal evacuation and emergency contingency plans.
- Conduct regular physical security surveys of facilities and staff housing.
- Produce consolidated Security Risk Assessment documents.
- Develop Ad hoc SRM for various field missions.
- Organize DfPS armed escort when necessary.
- Collaborate regarding threat/risk analysis.
- Assist with the preparation of the Contingency Security Plan.
- Provide staff with security briefings, situation reports, and training.
- Undertake field security missions and conduct security assessments.
- Participate as a member of specific Security Cell and provide advice.
- Supervise security equipment and personnel.
- Conduct security assessments within the area of responsibility.
- Establish contact with relevant local authorities.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding FAO security matters.
- Ensure FAO personnel comply with security advisory and instructions.
- Enhance familiarity with area-specific routes and procedures.
- Carry out safety and security training programmes.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Required Experience
- Secondary school with 5 years or more, of field experience in field security management; OR Bachelor’s degree in security management, business administration, political/social science, international relations, or related field with 4 years and above field security management.
- At least 2 years of UN or INGO experience is desirable.
- UN experience in the field of security within Afghanistan.
