Overview
The Communication Officer (Polio) role supports the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of communication and media strategies for polio eradication efforts. The purpose is to generate public awareness, build trust in vaccination campaigns, and strengthen political and community support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, produce, and disseminate communication strategies, products, and materials for the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) and National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
- Provide support in developing, drafting, and maintaining media materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets.
- Lead crisis communications efforts by monitoring media coverage and addressing misinformation and disinformation.
- Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of communication activities and prepare reports.
- Maintain and expand contact networks with journalists, influencers, partners, and institutions.
- Support organizing events, campaigns, and partner engagements.
Required Experience
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in communication, media relations (print, broadcast, and digital), or public information.
- Field work experience and background/familiarity with Emergency situations is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with media outlets and journalists, pitching stories, and producing high-quality media products is mandatory.
- Proven ability to develop, manage, and maintain complex partnerships while effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing digital campaigns and developing impactful, audience-focused content for social media platforms is mandatory.
- Prior experience working with the UN or international organizations, particularly in communication or public information, is highly desirable.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian/ emergency contexts.
Qualifications
• University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
