Overview
The role supports the Bank in implementing its Paris-Agreement-alignment commitment at the operations level throughout the project cycle, focusing on climate change expertise and climate finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Bank in the implementation of its Paris-Agreement-alignment commitment at the operations level throughout the project cycle.
- Assess projects against requirements related to Paris Agreement alignment and climate finance.
- Conduct internal climate determinations (Paris Agreement alignment and climate finance) throughout the project cycle.
- Support climate finance tracking and reporting.
- Conduct project-level climate risk screening and assessment.
- Provide support for the design of proposed mitigation and adaptation actions in investment operations.
- Assess the climate impact of projects.
- Collaborate with other specialists to help project teams deliver comprehensive solutions.
- Provide technical inputs on upstream engagement with members/clients on climate risk and adaptation-related diagnostic work.
- Appraise climate risks (both transition and physical risks).
- Assist in the development of appropriate response measures as part of investment projects/programs.
- Provide technical support to ensure good practices and latest developments in climate science and technology are reflected in AIIB’s climate-risk-management-related business processes, tools, and knowledge resources.
- Support, at the operations level, the setting up of any climate-related monitoring and reporting provisions.
- Provide inputs on any further development of internal methodologies, policies, and tools.
- Lead or contribute to the establishment and management of operational climate databases and other related data.
- Support Bank-wide capacity-building activities on climate and the broader environmental agenda.
Required Experience
- At least 5-10 years of specialized experience relevant to the position.
- Relevant professional experience, including international work experience in designing and implementing climate change projects and/or research.
- Experience in natural hazard or climate impact modeling and research; climate risk assessment; greenhouse gas accounting, adaptation, and disaster risk reduction planning and practices; and application of risk information for research, investments, and/or policy in developing economies.
- Skills and experience in the statistical analysis and application of climatic and related data, including trend analysis and extreme value analysis.
- Experience in the generation and use of geospatial information, databases, and tools.
- Project experience involving the development of software, digital tools, or databases and adopting agile and user-experience design approaches will be an advantage.
- Experience in nature finance and an understanding of the climate-nature nexus will be advantageous.
- Excellent project-management skills, with the ability to plan, manage, and lead initiatives independently and with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member.
- Experience working with other multilateral development banks will be advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and report-writing skills.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree or equivalent in atmospheric science, applied climatology, climate informatics, earth science (hydrology), physical geography, geographic information systems, civil engineering, or related fields.
