Overview
The Shelter and WASH Assistant will conduct technical needs assessments, facilitate and monitor emergency response activities, and ensure minimum Shelter and WASH standards are applied.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out technical needs assessments for shelters, schools, etc.
- Facilitate and monitor Emergency response activities.
- Produce accurate drawings, reports, measurements (BoQs) and/or photographs.
- Ensure minimum Shelter and WASH standards are applied.
- Mobilize communities for building materials, construction activities and maintenance.
- Suggest new methods and approaches to improve activity quality.
- Administrate payment requests for partners, contractors, suppliers, construction workers etc.
- Report all protection related concerns.
- Carry out data collection as required.
- Prepare and file relevant documents according to procedures.
- Carry out related mainstreaming of protection in programme daily implementation.
- Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point.
- Distribution of Basic Assistance Kits, WASH-related kits, and other emergency-related supplies.
- Conduct rapid and precise assessments for collective shelters, schools, etc.
- Identify needs and propose scope of intervention for shelter rehabilitation.
- Ensure that all materials used and work performed address beneficiaries’ needs and ensure safety.
- Monitor, supervise and inspect the quality of the works.
- Check plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy of calculation.
- Monitor water and sanitation facilities acceptance and beneficiary satisfaction.
- Generate comprehensive weekly and monthly situation reports.
- Report activities using distribution lists, field reports, attendance lists and Kobo online activity reporting.
- Prepare daily report, consent forms, cooperation agreements and all other needed documentation for initiating and implementing construction works.
- Filing of shelter & WASH technical documents.
- Assist in other WASH related duties as requested.
- Report code of conduct breaches especially those that affect vulnerable populations.
- Share your skills and experience within the team and learn from your colleagues.
Required Experience
- 1-3 year of experience working within Projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Experience from working with water and sanitation projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience in contractor and site management
- Knowledge of the context of Refugees informal settlements and/or urban settlements
- Experience with start-up of projects
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Civil engineering , Mechanical Engineering, Public Health, Architecture or any related field
