Overview

The National Aquaculture Expert will coordinate all activities related to Aquaculture and Fisheries under the EbA Project in Mozambique. The role supports the EbA Project's sustainable aquaculture, fish sanctuaries, and livelihoods components, and contributes to FAO Mozambique's fisheries and Blue Economy sector initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as main focal point for Aquaculture, Fish sanctuaries and livelihood alternatives under Component 2 of the EbA Project.
  • Support the EbA project team in the preparation and management of contracts (LoAs) and FBAs.
  • Evaluate and propose environmentally low-impact aquaculture technologies and best management practices.
  • Propose protocols for measuring physicochemical parameters for aquaculture cultivation.
  • Develop technical protocols for monitoring resource recovery.
  • Support the identification of target beneficiaries and government officials for training.
  • Support community entry and consultations with stakeholders regarding aquaculture.
  • Liaise with service providers to implement project action plans.
  • Prepare relevant communication write-ups and regular reports on project implementation.
  • Participate in project meetings and support dissemination of project results.
  • Support the design of Concept Notes for project proposals.
  • Provide technical support in the implementation of fisheries projects and initiatives.
  • Support the FAO fisheries and Blue Economy focal point on communication with partners.
  • Contribute to a communication plan for the project.
  • Ensure regular and quality information feeding for the communication plan.
  • Produce at least one key communication product per month.
Required Experience

• 5 years of relevant experience in the environment, fisheries sectors and/or Climate Changes Adaptation.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in natural resources management or related fields (fisheries, aquaculture, biology)
