Overview
The Associate Field Security Coordination Officer will report to the Chief Security Adviser through the Deputy Security Adviser and is responsible for enabling the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares a draft security plan and security management documents for assigned elements of the mission, designated county or geographic area.
- Monitors activities related to the implementation of the approved security measures.
- Participates in maintaining and enhancing lines of communication with United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) entities.
- Assists with implementation and evaluation of the preparedness and compliance of the security measures.
- Conducts security surveys and assessments.
- Supports the implementation of safety and security policies of the UNSMS.
- Participates in maintaining cooperation and enhancing collaborations with authorities and international institutions.
- Prepares draft reports on security-related incidents involving UN staff members project personnel or eligible dependents.
- Provides support to UNSMS organizations in the establishment and maintenance of a functioning Emergency Communication System.
- Assists Senior Security Officers in establishing policies and procedures for reviewing crisis situations and preparing contingency plans for emergencies.
- Liaises with local authorities and international institutions, provides security briefings of limited scope.
- Assists with providing security training to UNSMS personnel and operational partners of the United Nations.
- Assists Senior Security Officer in responding to crisis events and security incidents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency management in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in corporate environment is required.
- Two years of international experience in security operations is required.
- Experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, and information management to advance decision-making, strategy development, and execution (using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI) is required.
- Two years of experience in planning, design, implementation or review of risk mitigation measures related to operations impacted by insecurity is required.
- Specialized experience in such areas as security programmes, risk assessments, or analysis is required.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in security management, business administration, political/social science, psychology, criminal justice, law, international relations, or a related field is required.
- A first level university degree with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A first level university degree may be substituted with a diploma from a police or military education institution, college or academy obtained over a minimum of a three-year period.
