Overview

Provide support focused on trade and investment policy programming and the facilitation of regional value chain review mechanisms in selected sectors within the SADC region.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support programming and organizing trade and investment policy-related and regional VC platforms meetings.
  • Prepare technical documents including reports, concept notes, policy briefs, and workplans.
  • Identify, shortlist, and prioritize regulatory barriers to trade and investment.
  • Support the development of policy reforms to address prioritized barriers.
  • Collect, analyze, monitor, and present data on VCRM results and trade and investment negotiations.
  • Facilitate the design, implementation, and monitoring of regional value chain review mechanisms.
  • Coordinate value chain development activities.
  • Support the SADC Secretariat and national focal points to enter data on implementation progress into a strategy tracking tool.
  • Provide substantive support for coordination and evaluation of policy advocacy and VCRM-related activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation and/or review of written outputs such as progress reports and communication briefs.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Undertake outreach activities and support the communication of results.
  • Participate in field missions, including data collection and analytical support.
  • Collaborate and liaise with the SADC ATCMA Programme Management Unit (PMU).
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in trade and investment related to economic research and analysis, policy/strategy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area.
  • Experience working with or engaging the SADC Secretariat and/or SADC member state institutions.
  • Experience in value chain development and policy implementation is desirable.
  • Experience in project monitoring and reporting is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, trade, law, business management, public policy or related field.
  • A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Fluency in English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French and Portuguese is desirable.
