Overview
Provide legal expertise to support the UNTOC Review Mechanism, including facilitating States Parties' participation and contributing to the analysis of review documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the legal analysis of documents related to the UNTOC Review Mechanism, including contributing to the review of States Parties’ self-assessment questionnaires.
- Contribute to the review of submissions for written feedback, lists of observations and summaries related to country reviews.
- Support States Parties in the review process through, inter alia, facilitating consultations and dialogue between reviewed and reviewing States Parties.
- Contribute to the legal analysis of at least 12 country reviews at the self-assessment questionnaires step.
- Contribute to at least 16 submissions for written feedback, lists of observations and summaries.
- Facilitate consultations in relation to at least 20 country reviews.
- Maintain and follow-up direct e-mail communication and correspondence with States Parties’ officials.
Required Experience
- A minimum of one year experience in the analysis of legislation/legal research/drafting of legal documents, preferably in the area of criminal law, is required;
- Experience working with intergovernmental processes and implementation review mechanisms is desirable;
- Knowledge of issues related to crime prevention and criminal justice, organized crime or closely related fields is desirable;
- Experience in international organizations is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminology or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in the aforementioned fields in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
