Overview
The consultant will contribute specialized legal expertise in international and national nuclear law and related legal frameworks, including legislative, regulatory, and contractual aspects relevant to the safe, secure, and peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
Key Responsibilities
- - Participate in IAEA missions and other activities addressing legal frameworks.
- - Review draft and enacted legislation.
- - Contribute to awareness-raising missions, workshops, and training courses, including delivering lectures, case studies, and practical exercises.
- - Provide legal advice and support in areas of nuclear safety, nuclear security, civil liability for nuclear damage, nuclear energy, nuclear applications, and technical cooperation.
Required Experience
- - Minimum of ten years relevant experience.
- Including several years at the international level and/or advising governmental officials on nuclear related matters.
- Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- International legal instruments adopted by and under IAEA auspices on nuclear safety, nuclear security, and civil liability for nuclear damage.
- Legal frameworks for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear technology and its applications.
- Drafting legislation in all areas of nuclear law and reviewing draft and enacted nuclear legislation covering specific areas.
- Advising on legislation and related aspects concerning nuclear power programmes and projects, including specific subjects.
- Advising on commercial and contractual arrangements for nuclear projects.
- Knowledge of key IAEA publications, safety standards, nuclear security guidance and other guidance documents.
Qualifications
- Member of a national bar or equivalent.
