Overview

The Coordination Officer will be responsible for coordinating with Corporate Services and UNEP Divisions, providing governance and support to MEA Governing Bodies, developing policies and procedures, managing knowledge, and conducting research and analysis.


Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure coordination with relevant functional areas in Corporate Services Division on administrative and legal components related to UNEP MEAs Secretariats.
  • Collaborate with the Law Division and other UNEP divisions on CSD-related work intersecting with programmatic cooperation between MEAs and UNEP.
  • Support administrative areas in collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights.
  • Communicate organizational administrative and legal corporate priorities to MEAs Secretariats.
  • Provide high-level coordination support to the Conference of the Parties and subsidiary bodies regarding administrative services.
  • Provide guidance and advisory services on corporate legal issues to MEAs Secretariats.
  • Coordinate or support the review and development of policies, guidance, and standard operating procedures for MEAs Secretariats.
  • Contribute to the development of operational policies by troubleshooting and proposing solutions.
  • Coordinate the development of a platform for knowledge management and experience sharing on administrative aspects of MEAs Secretariats.
  • Provide support to increase visibility of MEAs Secretariats.
  • Coordinate and prepare written outputs, including background papers, analyses, and sections of reports.
  • Undertake research and analysis to develop recommendations for management.
  • Provide substantive input to analytical reports, progress reports, and contribute to strategic planning and workplans.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights through data visualization methods.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area, in the environment field (e.g. biodiversity, chemicals, regional seas or climate change) is required.
  • Experience working or coordinating with Multilateral Environmental Agreements Secretariats is required.
  • Experience in corporate policy and legal advisory services in support of the operational activities of UN Multilateral Environmental Agreements or other international organization is required.
  • Experience providing direct support to senior officials, such as in an Executive Office, Front Office or similar setting, is desirable.
  • Experience in implementing change management initiatives or business transformation projects relating to MEAs is desirable.
  • Experience working with United Nations common systems administrative policies and procedures is desirable.
  • Experience in preparing thorough and well-reasoned written outputs including background papers, analytical notes, reports etc. is desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, business administration, economics or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with at least two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programmes in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
