Overview
Communications Specialist to support FAO projects in eastern and southern Ukraine, focusing on raising the visibility of ongoing work and documenting field activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide communications support for FAO projects in eastern and southern Ukraine.
- Support the implementation and updating of the FAO Ukraine communications plan.
- Collect photo, video, and background materials from project sites.
- Identify and document beneficiary stories and field-level results.
- Draft communication materials, including press releases, news stories, media advisories, and social media content.
- Support the preparation of communication and visibility materials for projects.
- Contribute to FAO Ukraine’s social media and web content.
- Liaise with project teams to gather information for communication purposes.
- Ensure field-level communication activities align with internal SOPs.
- Apply and promote the use of standard communication tools and templates.
- Flag gaps or inconsistencies in SOP application and contribute to their improvement.
- Ensure communication inputs are consistent with FAO messaging and context-sensitive.
- Provide structured communication inputs from the field for donor reporting.
- Maintain a list of local media and stakeholders and support media outreach.
- Support the organization of field visits and media missions.
- Collaborate with implementing partners on donor visibility requirements.
- Ensure communication materials are targeted, context-sensitive, and gender-responsive.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public information, or journalism, with a strong emphasis on field-based content collection and storytelling.
- Proven experience working in emergency or humanitarian contexts, specifically in eastern or southern Ukraine, and familiarity with the local media landscape.
- Proven experience in drafting diverse communication materials, including news stories and social media content, in line with institutional styles and sensitive-context protocols.
- Strong ability to coordinate field visits, media missions, and events while maintaining effective relationships with local stakeholders and implementing partners.
