Overview

Conducts open source and digital investigations on allegations of violations of international human rights, international humanitarian and international criminal law. Undertakes verification, authentication, geolocation and analysis of digital content.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts open source and digital investigations.
  • Sets up an open-source investigation tools and analysis system.
  • Undertakes verification, authentication, geolocation and analysis of digital content.
  • Collects and preserves information and evidence from online sources.
  • Ensures documentation, chain of custody and integrity of collected data.
  • Develops or contributes to the development of processes to meet investigation needs.
  • Prepares complete and concise investigation reports.
  • Conducts post investigation tasks.
  • Plans and coordinates activities related to the fact-finding mission’s mandate.
  • Conducts substantive research and analysis of mandate-related issues/events.
  • Assesses their impact on the human rights situation.
  • Collects and analyses human rights data and indicators.
  • Ensures human rights issues are integrated into political, humanitarian and economic efforts.
  • Defines work plan for area assigned.
  • Represents UN human rights programme at working level meetings.
  • Writes a variety of reports, communications, briefings, statements.
  • May provide guidance to new/junior staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required. Out of the (5) years, at least two (2) years of experience in online open source investigation/analysis/verification in the field of international human rights activities and/or international criminal investigations is desirable. Relevant working experience in or on the region is desirable. Relevant experience in, and/or training on open-source investigation and analysis is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
