Overview
The UN Health Manager will provide medical services to UN staff and their dependents, manage the UN Clinic, and facilitate medical evacuations. The role involves clinical services, medical administration, and supervision of clinic staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend the United Nations Clinic on a full-time basis.
- Respond to acute emergencies and provide triage and primary stabilization.
- Undertake day-to-day clinical duties, including medical examinations and immunizations.
- Provide health education and address work environment and occupational health issues.
- Diagnose and recommend treatment to staff visiting the Clinic.
- Be on call during and outside office hours for emergencies and house calls.
- Liaise with medical facilities to coordinate medical evacuations.
- Follow UN policies regarding medical clearances, sick leave, and evacuations.
- Facilitate authorized medical evacuations and ensure proper follow-up.
- Establish and maintain relations with hospitals, medical facilities, and physicians.
- Ensure proper and confidential medical record keeping.
- Maintain and replenish medical supplies and equipment.
- Recommend procurement of vaccines, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare and send periodic reports on clinic functions and treatments.
- Advise on health precautionary steps at the duty station.
- Provide training in UN administrative rules and procedures to relief doctors.
- Lead and manage the medical service team.
- Ensure the development, generation, and reporting of key performance indicators.
- Ensure timely recruiting, training, and performance management of staff.
- Ensure continuous professional development of staff.
- Ensure compliance with UN healthcare facilities' standards.
- Perform annual planning and budget preparation.
- Manage day-to-day mission medical support operations.
- Ensure appropriate training programmes are implemented.
- Oversee workplace health and medical service communication products.
- Brief and advise senior management on healthcare matters.
- Represent the medical service on health and medical entitlements matters.
- Ensure occupational health representation at the local committee.
- Plan and organize training of focal points and peer educators.
- Arrange dissemination of UN policies on HIV/AIDS.
- Conduct education and information campaigns.
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5 years (with Advanced University Degree) or 7 years (with first level university degree) of progressively responsible clinical experience in one of the areas of medicine is required.
- Residency and/or Internship in one of the medical specialties, preferably internal medicine, or family medicine, is required.
- Experience with International Organizations and/or field deployments is required.
- Two years of managerial experience in the medical field, including budgeting, supervisory responsibilities, and resource management, is required.
- Valid certification in Advanced Trauma Life support, Advanced cardiac Life support, OR Prehospital trauma life support is required.
- Familiarity with medical record systems (e.g., EarthMed).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Two years of experience in the Occupational Health field is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability in client relationship management and support is desired.
- Proven ability to handle acute emergencies, triage, and stabilization is desired.
- Experience in mass casualty and medical evacuation coordination is desired.
- Certification in HIV care OR VCCT is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced University Degree in Medicine, from an accredited University and currently licensed to practice within home country or other national jurisdiction; OR
- First level university degree with additional 2 years of experience will be considered in lieu of advanced university degree
