Overview

Internship opportunity focused on data research within the Office of Supply Chain Management. The role involves gathering, analyzing, and visualizing data to support organizational objectives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performing statistical and/or mathematical programming, developing reports and visual representations, developing and/or maintaining databases, and providing consultation, technical assistance, advises and assists in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet the needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; and designs and implements study activities and process improvements.
  • Supports team members with data cleaning from primary or secondary sources and maintaining databases/data systems.
  • Creates simple data visualizations for internal or external use independently.
  • Translates data results into written reports, or presentations to convey information to management.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns, using basic machine learning techniques, statistical methods to identify relevant features and variables in structured sources of information and data.
  • Contributes to identifying opportunities to implement innovative approaches and evidence-based reasoning to organizational issues and ensures clean data without major quality issues is used for complex analyses.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of data science solutions to better enable the planning, decision making, and implementation of organization programmes.
  • Understanding of new data sources and process pipelines is appreciated, and the ability to assist in cataloguing/documenting.
  • Familiarity with Data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, Data Visualization, dashboard and performance optimization, Automatization of streamlined workflows, Data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods.
  • Familiarity with tools such as: Excel, PowerPivot, PowerPoint, and analytics tools such as Microsoft SQL, PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Qlik.
Required Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). Pursuing studies and experiences in the following areas: Analytics and Business Intelligence. Candidates with relevant coursework in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics.

Fluency in English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Contract Duration
3-6 months
Work Modality
In person in New York or remote, full time or part time modalities would be considered. Hybrid attendance or remote.
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
