Overview

Internship in the Political Unit of the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, providing support to the unit's activities and research on issues relevant to Lebanon and the Middle East region.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and compile information on selected issues relevant to Lebanon and the Middle East region.
  • Assist in the drafting of geographical and thematic fact sheets.
  • Assist in the drafting of daily reports on incidents in Lebanon and help maintain the Unit's data collection on security trends.
  • Assist in the compilation of presentations, papers and other documents as required.
  • Assist in the monitoring of local, regional and international media, including social media.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of events and outreach activities.
  • Attend conferences, workshops and other relevant public events as an observer and report back to UNSCOL.
  • Translate media items and other documents from Arabic to English or English to Arabic.
  • Support in archiving and other administrative functions.
  • Perform any other duties as requested.
Required Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications; basic database management skills.
  • Have internet communication, searching, and social media skills.
Other Details
Languages Required
Fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French would be an asset.
Contract Duration
The preferred duration for this internship with UNSCOL is three months subject to extension for up to 6 months.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
