Overview

This internship is in the Policy and Planning Unit within the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. The intern will conduct research and policy analysis, assist in preparing written products, and help organize events and meetings.


Key Responsibilities
  • Attend meetings, events, and conferences and draft summary reports, minutes, notes, and outline follow-up actions.
  • Conduct research and policy analysis within the areas of the Unit’s interest, including on emerging issues in international peace and security, multilateralism, diplomacy, and international affairs.
  • Assist in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles, presentations and other materials, including through research, drafting, and cataloguing information and analyzing data.
  • Assist in organizing events, both online and on-site, providing support for tasks associated with event planning, administration, coordination, and logistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
six (6) months
Work Modality
Fully in-person preferred; partly hybrid arrangement possible. This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person in New York (USA) but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote.
Remuneration
This internship is UNPAID. The internship is UNPAID and travel costs, travel arrangements (including visas) and living accommodations are the responsibility of the intern.
