Overview
The Political Affairs Intern will support the substantive work of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Vienna, contributing to cooperation on disarmament, non-proliferation, and international peace and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the substantive work of the Office and its cooperation on disarmament, non-proliferation, and international peace and security with Vienna-based organisations;
- Participate in meetings/conferences/seminars and prepare meeting reports;
- Participate in the planning and execution of UNODA outreach efforts and projects;
- Support preparation and execution of UNODA’s capacity-building fellowships and youth learning programmes;
- Prepare and support development of communication products for the Office, including social media accounts, basic design work, and multimedia content;
- Contribute to development and review of educational materials;
- Contribute to the preparation of background documents, presentations, summaries, talking points and speeches;
- Conduct analyses of open-source information in the areas of disarmament and non-proliferation;
- Perform other tasks as necessary.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- OR be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
