Overview

The role involves gathering, selecting, and analyzing information related to political and gender issues. It also includes participating in the analysis and development of gender-responsive operational tools and guidance.


Key Responsibilities
  • Gathers, selects and analyses information contained in communications and publications.
  • Participates in the analysis and development of gender-responsive operational tools and guidance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political and gender issues.
  • Keeps abreast of latest trends and developments in Women, Peace and Security.
  • Monitors national and regional level political and developments on gender and Women, Peace and Security.
  • Provides technical and substantive back up in the implementation of Women, Peace and Security mandates.
  • Maintains contacts with other entities of the UN, other international organizations and governments.
  • Monitors gender-responsive actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organisations, government and non-governmental organizations.
  • Selects, classifies and stores in computerised databases gender and disaggregated information.
  • Participates in fact-finding on gender and Women, Peace and Security and other missions.
  • Participates in provision of secretariat services to Security Council, General Assembly, subsidiary organizations, negotiating bodies, conferences, meetings, and /or special missions.
  • Prepares meetings of the USG with officials from countries under the Organization's purview.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required. Experience in gender programming policy analysis and sociological research is required. Experience in coordination project management in conflict field contexts in peacekeeping operations is desirable. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, Gender studies, sociology, law or other related. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
