Overview

The WASH Specialist will support the coordination of WASH sector activities and the transition of WASH services from UN/Humanitarian agencies to Government-owned systems in Kakuma Municipality.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support WASH coordination among partners.
  • Work closely with County Government and Municipality to assess urban water, sanitation and hygiene conditions.
  • Facilitate detailed assessment of urban water supply systems and provide technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical, managerial, cost efficient, and O&M solutions for improving urban water supply.
  • Strengthen sanitation facilities and waste management systems.
  • Address gaps and overlaps in UNHCR funded WASH programmes.
  • Provide support for inclusion of PoC within national SDG 6 development plans.
  • Support key WASH strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure PoC are consulted during planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of WASH services.
  • Monitor and evaluate WASH programmes.
  • Strengthen monitoring, evaluation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Build the technical capacity of key stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience
  • 3 years Donor priorities - Nationality Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
  • Additional eligibility criteria This assignment is funded by JICA, therefore only former Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JICA-JOCV) recommended by the JICA-JOCV Secretariat are eligible to apply.
  • 2 years experience in Project management and coordination preferably in the areas of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
  • Experience in Project management and coordination.
  • Preferable experience in the area of WASH including surveys, programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and coordination, solid waste management, and hygiene promotion awareness.
  • Preferable experience working at the local level, including with the communities, and local governments and stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil engineering or Rural Development or Community Development or Urban policy & planning or Water resource or development or Water/Sanitation Engineering or international development.
  • A Bachelor's university degree (or equivalent) with 2 additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
