Overview

The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will provide professional technical assistance to strengthen the humanitarian response capacity of the UN system in Ecuador and enhance humanitarian coordination and advocacy mechanisms.


Key Responsibilities
  • Strengthen the humanitarian response capacity of the UN system in Ecuador by supporting RC/HC coordination efforts and establishing UN inter-agency mechanisms.
  • Enhance humanitarian coordination and advocacy mechanisms in Ecuador in coordination with key humanitarian partners.
  • Ensure timely situational awareness and risk analysis, including monitoring of natural hazards, to inform programme planning and response.
  • Strengthen emergency response preparedness through support to preparedness actions and SOP development.
  • Develop humanitarian strategies, documents, and appeals informed by needs analysis and inter-agency response planning.
  • Support inter-agency needs assessments to understand humanitarian impacts and access constraints.
  • Monitor humanitarian access trends in collaboration with UN agencies, INGOs, and government counterparts.
  • Establish mechanisms for collecting, processing, and disseminating humanitarian information from partners.
  • Develop and update 3W/4W/5W systems, mapping of actors, and contact lists.
  • Support advocacy efforts to promote timely, coordinated, and targeted humanitarian responses.
Required Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience is required. Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. Background/familiarity with emergency is considered as an asset.

Qualifications

A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Social Sciences, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or another relevant technical field.

Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, or Russian) or a local language is an asset.
