Overview

This internship is with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in New York, focusing on advancements in science and technology within the context of international peace and security.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in drafting and preparing official documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks and web content.
  • Monitors trends and developments on emerging technologies and other cross-cutting issues.
  • Conducts research on science and technology related matters, such as cybersecurity/information communication technologies security, artificial intelligence, uncrewed aerial vehicles, lethal autonomous weapons systems etc.
  • Assists during conferences and intergovernmental meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.

Remuneration
This internship is unpaid. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
