Overview
The Community Engagement Officer will implement peacebuilding initiatives in Khartoum/Omdurman, focusing on promoting peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution through dialogue and relationship building with community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement peace-building initiatives.
- Facilitate community dialogues, workshops, and training.
- Support development and implementation of local peace-building strategies.
- Provide guidance to local leaders, civil society, and volunteers.
- Monitor project progress and propose adaptive measures.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community members and leaders.
- Conduct field visits to understand community needs.
- Foster community ownership and participation.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Collect data to assess intervention effectiveness.
- Prepare reports on project activities.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Lead reporting of community engagement and peacebuilding activities.
- Promote a culture of learning within the team.
- Ensure understanding and adoption of conflict sensitivity concepts.
- Support the team on conflict sensitivity analysis.
- Develop tools, facilitate training, and provide technical support.
- Collect data on conflict drivers and community tensions.
- Participate in impact assessments.
- Provide guidance on conflict sensitivity programming to partners.
- Ensure conflict assessments are updated and shared.
Required Experience
- At least 2 years of work experience in peacebuilding, conflict analysis, conflict sensitivity, conflict management, or another relevant field.
- Knowledge and understanding of the conflict context and dynamics in Khartoum.
- Experience working with local authorities, communities, and civil society.
- Experience facilitating training, workshops, and dialogues.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to set priorities and to work independently and as part of a team.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Affinity with working with displacement-affected populations.
- Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment.
Qualifications
• At least a Diploma in conflict management, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, development studies, social sciences or other relevant fields, or relevant working experience.
