Support the definition of an agricultural methane roadmap for Azerbaijan, focusing on the livestock sector, and provide recommendations for national climate policies.


Key Responsibilities
  • - Support the definition of an agricultural methane roadmap based on inputs from ministries.
  • - Coordinate the preparation of the Methane Roadmap for the livestock sector for presentation to the government of Azerbaijan.
  • - Ensure an inclusive process involving key stakeholders for integration of recommendations into national frameworks.
  • - Provide recommendations for the inclusion of agricultural methane in Azerbaijan’s next NDC and implementation plan.
  • - Produce a map of agricultural stakeholders related to methane emissions and a stakeholder engagement plan.
  • - Summarize existing data on agricultural livestock methane emissions.
  • - Map relevant existing and planned plans and policies across agriculture and environment.
  • - Convene stakeholder meetings with line ministries.
  • - Develop a methane roadmap for the livestock sub-sector including needs assessment, mitigation assessment, and funding sources.
  • - Provide indicative recommendations for NDCs and related national climate and agricultural policies.
  • - Submit periodic reports including technical inputs, dialogue summaries, and technical agreements.
Required Experience
  • - At least 2 years of professional experience working in a field relevant to environmental management/science, climate change, or agriculture is required.
  • - Experience working in the livestock sector is desirable.
  • - Knowledge of the national policies in agriculture, climate change mitigation and air pollution is desirable.
  • - A good understanding of short-lived climate pollutants, climate change and air pollution issues in Azerbaijan is desirable.
  • - Experience in multi-stakeholder engagement and working with government authorities in central Asia is desirable.
  • - A good understanding of GHG dynamics, short-lived climate pollutants, and livestock production in Azerbaijan is desirable.
  • - Ability to work with advanced formulas in Excel spreadsheets is desirable.
Qualifications

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field is required. A first university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of the advanced degree.
