Overview
The Data Specialist will support the Agrifood Systems data platform, conduct geospatial and statistical analysis, and facilitate the elaboration of diagnostics and analysis to support policy support and dialogue.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance of Agrifood Systems data platform by identifying additional data domains and sources.
- Identify statistical domains and variables needed for country situation analysis reports and their derivation to the Country Programming Framework.
- Process geospatial and earth observation data to develop subnational indicators and conduct statistical analysis.
- Support the preparation and updating of country situation analysis reports.
- Provide support to FAO country representatives on data-related issues for CCA and UNSDCF processes.
- Identify support requirements on data for country offices and propose solutions.
- Provide related inputs for the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition and other policy flagships.
Required Experience
- At least three years of relevant experience, including knowledge of the specific challenges, datasets, and methodologies involved in generating agrifood system data in the Middle East and conflict-affected countries.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
- Extended and relevant experience and knowledge of the main data sources used for the compilation of statistics; in data management and the compilation, validation and analysis of agricultural and food data; ability to analyze complex statistical-related issues; in developing statistical methodologies; in analysing statistical data and in writing reports using data.
- Extended and relevant experience in the dissemination of statistical data; developing data platforms and related metadata.
- Extended and relevant experience in project implementation of technical assistance projects and training programmes.
- Broad knowledge about the situation of agrifood systems in the region and local specificities.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Finance or related disciplines. Consultants with bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
- University degree (or technical degree/certificate) from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Finance or related disciplines.
- Advanced university degree (PhD, MSc or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, agricultural economics, or a related field is considered an advantage.
